Ink Pulp Audio Episode 10: Kelly Sue DeConnick

Gah. I tried to edit and lost the post.  Sometimes I hate you, Tumblr.

So, uh, starting over —

If you’re not familiar with Shawn Crystal’s podcast he has an unusual format: his guests are comic book creators, but the discussion is seldom about the books or even craft.  It’s almost… biographical?  Usually with specific bent somehow related to Shawn’s various neuroses.  You know WTF with Marc Maron?  In that vein, but for comic book creators, versus comedians.  It’s half monologue/half interview and a musical outro.

ANYWAY, I’m spelling this out because the conversation gets very frank about issues of addiction and miscarriage and while I’m not sure “trigger warning” applies here, I still don’t want anyone caught off-guard.

We recorded this more than a year ago and I kind of skimmed it this morning (listened while I was dealing with other things) so I don’t remember it too well, but… yeah.  I caught that much.  So, if it’s gonna upset you, maybe skip it…?

Everybody else go here

This months Episode is with Kelly Sue DeConnick. She’s a force to be reckoned with. She was also an open book, talking about everything from her dark days of addiction to launching a writing career in porn.

It’s a wild episode. Enjoy.

INKPULP Audio, Episode 6… YES… SIX! I am blown away by the love and support this podcast has and continues to receive. Please keep the praise coming, my narcissism cavity will take a lot to fill. I need love people…LOVE!

OK, enough…

Listening to this right now…

Wow. Very kind words and some great plot synopses of Avengers Assemble and Captain Marvel.  If you’re curious about either book, maybe Vince and Roger will convince you to give them a try:

This week, Vince and I gush over Kelly Sue DeConnick, in a big way. Her recent work on both Avengers Assemble and Captain Marvel has been absolutely fantastic, cementing her as a very strong character writer who can also handle intricate story-arcs.
